Chadian president ready to pardon imprisoned French humanitarians

PARIS, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno Thursday said that he was ready to forgive and pardon the six humanitarian workers, who are serving sentences in France after being convicted by a Chadian court in connection with a child trafficking scandal.

"I am ready to forgive them," President Deby, who had a day earlier declared that he was always willing to "consider the question of a pardon," told France's Europe 1 radio, nevertheless insisting that "this could only be done if a request is made by French authorities."
