Britney who? Suddenly even high-court judges and dance critics are up to speed on the child-star-turned-train-wreck, thanks to the latest media feeding frenzy. The sorry Spears saga is still a work in progress, but that didn't hinder Hubert Essakow from taking her life as the material for his Meltdown which premiered at Rambert's choreographic showcase last weekend.

I'm not sure that dance is the ideal medium for unpicking a complex story of this kind; and even if it were, Essakow does not yet appear qualified for the job. Meltdown isn't a particularly offensive or sensationalist treatment but it reduces the singer's unfathomable miseries to a string of banal snapshots charting her decline ...
