Notre Dame was content to trade free throws for layups by
Marquette's Dominic James with the game on the line.
"At Notre Dame, we're halfway smart, so we can add up and trading
two for two is all right," Irish forward Luke Zeller said.
The 22nd-ranked Fighting Irish didn't make a field goal in the
final six minutes, going 0 for 6, but were 10 of 10 from the free
throw line during that stretch to hold on for an 86-83 victory over
No. 16 Marquette on Saturday.
Asked what happened to his team's shooting, Coach Mike Brey
joked, "I said, 'Let's just shoot free throws." '
The free throw line was a weapon for the Irish all game as they
