More employed by creative industries than agriculture

THE economic balance of power in rural North Yorkshire has shifted away from its traditional base, according to research.An economic impact study has revealed that arts-based creative industries are now leading the rural economy in the county.It shows that 30 per cent more people are now employed by creative industries than by traditional industries, such as agriculture.Employment in the creative industries has risen sharply, by 16 per cent over the past four years, taking the total to 11,590.The research was carried out for the York and North Yorkshire Creative Industries Network by the Burns Owens Partnership.It concluded that the creative industries have prospered while traditional ...
