AT GBP20,000 a space, it must be one of the most expensive car parks in Britain.

Transport chiefs have agreed to pay GBP372,000 to create an extra 18 parking spaces next to Easterhouse railway station.

Today passengers who use the station and local residents said they were shocked at the cost of the project, which will begin next week and should be completed by June.

But neighbours said the extra spaces would be worth the money - which will come from the public purse - as they would cut congestion caused by commuters parking on kerbs outside houses.

Councillors on Strathclyde Partnership for Transport's ruling committee agreed to the move to increase the number of spaces from 27 to 45.
