Article: Workers say union official OK'd contract without vote; Conn. Laborers' District Council denies Blakeslee pact charges

Some workers at a Branford concrete plant are blasting the leaders of their own union after the Connecticut Laborers' District Council signed a labor contract on their behalf.

On June 21, New Haven-based Local 455 signed a three-year agreement with Blakeslee Prestress Inc., where the union represents 167 workers.

A dozen of the workers have come forward, claiming union officials signed the labor pact despite the strenuous objections of the five-member negotiating committee elected by the workers. They said the union declined to allow a vote among the workers even though the negotiating committee insisted on it.
