Walter Elliot

Born 9 April, 1919, in Middletoun, Borders. Died 16 January, 2008, aged 88.

WALTER (though always known as Billy) Elliot FRAgS, CBE, achieved more in his many years than most people could even begin to dream about.

The fifth child and first son of William and Ella Elliot, he was educated initially at St Mary's School in Melrose from 1929-33 where was head boy and Victor Ludorum - champion of games. He completed his formal education at the Edinburgh Academy where he was a prefect and an outstanding rugby player.

When war came, he was commissioned into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders before being seconded to the Lovat Scouts with whom he went to Canada to train to fight ...
