Today is the biggest day of the year for Joyce Curtis, co-owner
of Bloomers flower shop on Providence Road.
Curtis and her son, Pete Kays, who have operated Bloomers for 20
years, haven't gotten much sleep the past three days. They've packed
hundreds of flower arrangements into the back of a rented truck that
has kept blossoms fresh at a cool 40 to 42 degrees. Four part-time
delivery workers were busy today scooping up the mostly $70-per-
dozen arrangements of roses for delivery to homes across the city.
Orders this year have come from as far away as Germany, Iraq and
Costa Rica. "We try not to work all night, because we make 40
percent of sales on Valentine's Day itself," Curtis said ...
