AFTER THE Super Tuesday primaries, a few things are clear:
Neither Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama is likely to average the 65
to 70 percent of popular votes needed to lock up the Democratic
presidential nomination before the party's August convention in
Denver.
As a result, the decision at the convention almost certainly will
fall into the hands of the so-called "super delegates," just under
800 elected officials and party professionals around the country, of
whom 451 are uncommitted at this time.
Nationally, super delegates are just 19 percent of the 4,049
total delegates. But West Virginia's ratio of super and at-large
delegates, all selected by party officials, is 54 percent - 21 out ...
