Shareholders' uproar about CEOs getting rich off stock options
shifted the salary game in 2003, but most CEOs continued to reap
healthy rewards.
Seven of 17 CEOs at large publicly traded companies in the Chicago
area received double-digit percentage pay increases because their
companies' boards of directors granted them far greater shares of
restricted stock in 2003 than in 2002. Restricted stock is common
stock that commonly vests over a set time period. For instance, some
restricted stock may not be sold for a specified number of years, or
until the executive retires.
