Town officials will keep an eye on the Boat House Pub for the next three months to make sure managers aren't running an illegal nightclub.

Deputy Fire Chief Jack Beagle told selectmen on Monday that the pub, on Dyke Street, has a dance floor, a raised area for a band and irregularly spaced seating that may violate its license.

The Boat House has a restaurant certificate and an entertainment license that allows live music, he said. Selectman Michael Maresco said Marshfield has not issued licenses for nightclubs in many years.

"The dining room where the bands play is a wide open area with five to six tables," Beagle wrote in a Jan. 8 violation notice that was issued to the pub. ...
