Minister Koumura made this presentation on 10 February 2008 at the
44th Munich Conference on Security Policy.
I would like to begin by saying that I am delighted to be here as
the first Japanese cabinet minister attending this conference.
When we discuss today's international community, we should not
limit ourselves to discussions on traditional security or military
aspects. I think we also need to address regional or global
challenges beyond national borders.
Issues that the world economy is facing today, such as the
current subprime loan issue, also have to be keenly watched as they
closely relate to security issues.
