3rd LD, Writethru: Chadian president announces state of emergency

YAOUNDE, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chadian President Idriss Deby Itnoon Thursday declared a state of emergency in the country, according to reports reaching here from the Chadian capital of N'Djamena.

In an address on national television and radio, Deby said that as allowed under the constitution, he had signed a decree to make his government take on exceptional power for 15 days from Friday.

The measure was to tighten security after a rebel attack on N'Djamena this month, said the reports, quoting the address by Deby.
