Grape Leaves, the tidy Middle Eastern restaurant in Oak Park, is
not much bigger than, well, an oak leaf. I am guessing that the
dining room is about 12 feet wide by 12 feet deep and holds a grand
total of eight tables. And the kitchen, which is partially open to
the dining room, isn't a whole lot bigger.
I have a theory that the goodness of the food is in inverse
proportion to the size of the kitchen. Though this may sound like one
of those wise-though-convoluted Confucian sayings, I will say it
anyway: It is easier for a cook to tend one stove than many ...
