A DEVELOPER behind the controversial Caltongate scheme in
Edinburgh made a GBP 4,000 donation to Labour before last year's
elections, it emerged yesterday.
London-based Mountgrange sponsored a champagne reception at a
dinner attended by Tony Blair, the former prime minister, while its
scheme was at a crucial stage in the planning process.
Labour was in charge of Edinburgh City Council at the time of the
event, staged to raise funds for the party, in February 2007.
Weeks later, the local authority gave Mountgrange planning
permission to start work on the foundations of the GBP 300 million
development - even though it did not have approval for any buildings
