WEST CARROLLTON -- Manufacturing can be a small world, sometimes.
Finnish papermaker Ahlstrom spent more than a year negotiating to
buy West Carrollton Parchment Co. from its owners, Pierce and
Cameron Lonergan. It was only then that Ahlstrom learned that while
it made the tea bag paper for Celestial Seasonings Tea, it was the
West Carrollton company that made the outer wrappers into which the
tea bags are placed.
This business move was a good fit, in other words.
"It was a pleasant surprise," said Christopher Coates, a vice
president for Ahlstrom U.S. Industries Inc. "There are so many
things you can't learn until you close the deal."
