Ice cream sold in six states, including Western Pennsylvania, has
been recalled because it may contain pieces of peanut butter candy
or peanuts without indicating those ingredients on the label, the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
The FDA and Cleveland-based Pierre's Ice Cream Co. have issued an
allergy alert for Pierre's Homestyle Dutch Chocolate ice cream with
the chocolate pieces.
The ice cream may have reached consumers through retail stores in
West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Western
Pennsylvania, the company said.
"It's a very limited amount. It should be very isolated," said
Laura Hindulak, a spokeswoman for the company, which has been making
