Coming off a season that Branford field hockey coach Cathy
McGuirk called an off year, the Hornets are poised to make their
annual run for the Class M state title with a more experienced and
talented team.
Last season, the Hornets were without four-year phenom Caitlyn
Buckanavage, one of the best all-around field hockey players and top
scorers in the history of the program who moved on to Boston
College. The loss was likely one reason for the off season for the
first time since 1998 the Hornets did not advance as far as the
semifinals in the Class M tournament.
