It was carnival time, complete with tents, a money wheel, bean-
bag toss and duck pond at Saturday's 19th-annual Heart Ball. The
nostalgic fun-and-games theme harkened to the childhood excitement
of neighborhood festivals and community fairs.
This was no ordinary street fair. The elegant, black-tie event
attracted 800 guests to the Downtown Hilton. Beautiful women in
flowing, shimmering jewel-tone gowns -- many in fabulous shades of
red -- stood out in the sea of black-tuxedoed gents.
Cocktail hour offered the opportunity to test Lady Luck and take
a chance at winning a prize -- and we're not talking about cuddly
stuffed animals. The Gus and Yia Yia's ice ball cart came out of
winter ...
