It is a mystery worthy of a CSI episode.

Last week, third-ranked Nitro High looked to be in state championship form in scoring a 40-point win in its girls basketball sectional final.

Well, looks can be deceiving.

Aggressive South Charleston (14-10) took advantage of Nitro's lackluster play to pull off the biggest upset of the girls' postseason to date, advancing to next week's State Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center with a 62-56 win in the Class AAA, Region 7 final.

A crowd of 850 at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex probably would have been bigger had not many area fans written off the Black Eagles' chances for a regional championship.
