Colleagues of a Beverley man who was at the centre of civic life
for almost 30 years have paid tribute to him.
Kenneth Loft, of Kirkholme Way, has died aged 73 after suffering
a heart attack.
Mr Loft had been macebearer to 28 different mayors during his
career, first serving Councillor John Ramsay during the
administration of Beverley Borough Council.
Today, friends and colleagues paid tribute to an "enormous
character".
Current mayor Jim Whitfield said: "His goodwill, his humorous
asides, his unflappability and his loyalty to his town and his
position added colour and enormous character to the town council."
