Gov. Martin O'Malley has proposed closing the Annapolis state
police barrack and moving the officers stationed there to Glen
Burnie.
The plan is included in his 2009 budget and would save $327,000
even as Mr. O'Malley refocuses his administration on public safety
initiatives and a crime plan for the city.
Although a decision has not been finalized by the legislature,
state and law enforcement officials believe shuttering one of Anne
Arundel County's two barracks would not be detrimental because city,
county and Department of General Services police still are nearby.
If approved, the barrack would close by July 1.
