What does the Ivy League sound like these days anyway?
No longer monopolized by a cappella, barbershop quartets and glee
clubs, Columbia University can proudly boast producing Vampire
Weekend, the latest darling of the indie blog and stage.
The four members of Vampire Weekend met at Columbia and started
playing together as a band there in 2006. And this is not just a
mere take-it-or-leave-it biographical fact, according to most of the
press on the band. Short of calling the four fellows snobs, the New
York Times ends its profile on the band with the lead singer Ezra
Koenig reminding the other three to meet up at the high-end Lacoste
store the next day....
