Article: Sheriff opposes concealed-weapons changes

A landlord, a Master Lock employee and a farmer were a few of about 10 individuals allowed by their county sheriff to attend a course Thursday at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center as part of a program to obtain a concealed-gun permit.

In Iowa counties, it is up to the sheriff to determine who can carry a concealed weapon.

But some members of the Iowa Legislature and a lobbyist group called "Iowacarry.org" want that law to change. Meanwhile, sheriffs around the state, including Dubuque County Sheriff Ken Runde, oppose the change.
