Recent victories for Republican Senator John McCain and Democrat
rival Barack Obama have left Hillary Clinton facing the prospect of
defeat in the race for the White House. GWYNNE DYER, however, feels
that a legacy of the outgoing administration - the war in Iraq -
could soon return to the top of the American political agenda
Iknew the American presidential race was over last week when my
son announced that he had lost his bet with me: Hillary Clinton was
not going to be the Democratic candidate. The question of whether
Barack Obama can beat John McCain is still open, according to the
opinion polls, but it probably won't stay open long once the two men
go head to head.
