BAKERSFIELD -- Livermore High's Stephan De La Cruz has a love-
hate relationship with the pressure of the tight, close matches to
which he's become accustomed at the CIF State Wrestling
Championships.
"I love it, and I hate it at the same time," De La Cruz said.
"But I come out on top because I'm more conditioned."
That conditioning proved beneficial Saturday at Rabobank Arena as
De La Cruz fought to get off his back late in his 135-pound
consolation round match with Poway's Timmy Boone and scored a 13-8
victory that clinched a state medal.
"I just wanted it so much," said De La Cruz, who earned an eighth-
place medal. "I just wanted it more than (Boone). I worked so hard
over the summer, ...
