Bolivian president approves referendums on new constitution

LIMA, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales signeda law Friday to officially setting May 4 as the date to hold two referendums on a new constitution fiercely criticized by his opponents, news reaching here from La Paz said.

The new constitution drawn up by a pro-Morales constitutional assembly in December would expand presidential power and redistribute the country's wealth to the poor natives in mountainous areas.

Morales also approved an interpretation norm in respect of holding referendums in government departments.
