Article: Costs on rise for dental insurance: ; Kanawha paying 100 percent of premiums for county workers

The cost of a dental insurance plan that Kanawha County offers employees is expected to rise at least 5 percent in the coming budget year, officials said.

County Comptroller David Fontalbert said the dental coverage, provided by United Concordia, costs the county an average of $17,500 a month, or $210,000 annually.

The county pays 100 percent of the premiums.

Coverage is available to all county employees, including those who work for Metro 911.

If workers are covered by the county's health insurance plan, administered at an annual cost of about $4 million by Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield, they automatically receive the dental insurance.
