Article: For bulbs' users, it feels like they're walking on broken glass

I AM on the side of green. I have used a few compact fluorescent light bulbs, but after reading your article, it is hard to fathom how advocates for using these bulbs think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages ("Mercury leaks found as new bulbs break," City & Region, Feb. 26).

The precautions one has to take if a fluorescent bulb breaks are absurd. Now really, cutting carpet away, using rubber gloves, opening windows, and using duct tape to pick up the shards - has anyone ever cleaned up after a glass has shattered? It is not done in slow motion. And what if a child breaks a bulb and parents don't realize it's broken. All that time the child is inhaling mercury gas.
