Right-hander Brett Tomko and the Kansas City Royals agreed Monday
to a $3 million, one-year contract that allows the right-hander to
earn an additional $1.5 million in performance bonuses. Tomko, 34,
who will be given an opportunity to start, had 33 strikeouts in 29A1/
2 innings as a reliever with just seven walks.
A--Dotel talking to White Sox: Right-hander Octavio Dotel is in
negotiations with the Chicago White Sox on a multiyear contract that
could make him the club's closer.
Dotel, 34, spent last season with the Kansas City Royals and
Atlanta Braves but was limited to only 33 appearances and 30A1/2
innings because of a shoulder injury.
