Escape to Florida's Istokpoga Lake for real bass fishing in the winter

SEBRING, Fla. -- The 8-inch, softbodied bait in the shape of a lizard fell softly in the water and sank slowly among the scattered lily pads.

A slight tug of the rod indicated a largemouth bass had taken the lure. The rod was lifted sharply, and a fish danced to the surface before plunging downward into pepper grass.

What a way to begin the day on a winter bass fishing trip to Florida, especially this year when it has been an awful winter in Ohio.

I was that fisherman with the bass on the line, and I will admit this certainly beat shoveling snow in the Buckeye State.
