TO THE EDITOR:
"Why aren't women as loyal to another woman as African-Americans
are to Obama?" my frustrated wife asked one day.
The first answer is that African-Americans have constant
reminders of a history of humiliation; and, though they have heroes
to admire, and days - and even a Black History month to commemorate
them - outside of the urban ghettos they have little real political
clout. But, then again, women have many of the same issues of
discrimination, of course.
So that takes us to a deeper question with which my wife agreed:
Why does such a large proportion of women continue to buy into the
patriarchal social idea that, in effect, men are more valuable ...
