When he was young, Andrew Rose's one aim in life was to make it
as a rock musician. Finding the money to follow this dream led to
him taking up many diverse jobs, until finding work at an opticians

I left school at 16 and went to art college, where I lasted three
months and then left.
I had a dream of being a rock star and thought art college would
be a good place to meet like-minded people.
I needed cash to buy instruments, so had to get a job. I went to
work in the steel industry, mostly working in petrochemical-based
