Roundup: Nikkei plunges 4 pct to reach about 6 weeks low

TOKYO, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Japan's key Nikkei stock index plummeted about 4.5 percent Monday to close below the 13,000 mark for the first time since mid January mainly due to the yen's sudden appreciation against the U.S. dollars in the past several trading days.

The sharp fall of the Tokyo market also demonstrated Japanese investors' mounting fears against a widely-speculated U.S. economic recession, analysts said.
