Article: when art imitates life if area players and coaches are anY indication, 'friday night lights' is pretty realistic

Acouple of weeks ago, I wrote about Saturday afternoon football taking a back seat to Friday night games. The phrase Friday Night Lights" referred to a book by the same name by H.G. Bissinger. The book was made into a movie by the same name and will be released Oct. 8.

Although the book takes place in Texas, it has more in common with football in the Chicago area (and in Illinois) than you think.

Bissinger spent the 1988 football season with the Permian Panthers of Odessa, Texas. His book, published in 1990, caused a firestorm because people from Odessa (and beyond) thought he was being negative and harsh on the kids.
