Scottish fire brigade control rooms will be revolutionised to
cope with terrorism and natural disasters, the minister for
community safety pledged in Inverness yesterday.
Inverness, Nairn and Lochaber MSP Fergus Ewing said that a new
digital communications network would be introduced to improve
communications between all eight fire control rooms and other
emergency services, at a cost of pounds100million over the next four
to five years.
Staff had faced uncertainty about their jobs after a report
prepared for the previous Holyrood administration recommended
cutting the control rooms from eight to either one, two or three,
stating it would provide better value for money. But in December ...
