It is our old friend political correctness again, only this time
it is serious. It has reared its ugly head on the golf course.
One of our local clubs has been giving a concession to members
when they reach the grand old age of 80. They have been allowed to
use trolleys on days when the three-wheel trundlers are banned
because the ground is wet or frosty and they might damage the grass.
Only two or three ancients are involved and their mobility didn't
suddenly turn them into geriatric Tiger Woods. No one objected but
now the concession has been withdrawn.
Management was apologetic and sympathetic - there is a warm heart
beneath her occasionally stern exterior. It is not her decision.
