Such a splendid season. A golden weather summer with more sun,
more rain, and more hot days than we've seen for years has pleased
everyone. Correction, nearly everyone. Dairy farmers facing dried-
up paddocks and dried-off cows are not happy. Will milk production
hold up? Will the giant companies turning milk into gold continue to
thrive? Will there be milk and butter for all? (And will we be able
to afford it should be the next question -- but that is another
story).
Cheese aficionados might ask the questions as well. From turning
out nothing but big blocks for years, our cheese factories and
cheesemakers have turned into stars. At this year's national cheese
awards the stage was awash ...
