As an enormous 18-wheeler pulled into the driveway at St.
Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church on Monday, three dozen
members of the congregation greeted it with cheers and shouts of
welcome.
The truck carried a new $400,000 pipe organ built for the church
by the Schantz Organ Co. in Orrville, Ohio, for the past five
months.
"Getting this pipe organ is a dream come true for our church,"
said Vee Mitchell, St. Martin's junior warden, who oversees the
building, grounds and infrastructure of the church.
Earlier this month, members of the congregation of all ages
pitched in to unload the poplar frame of the cabinet, along with
metal supports and the pipes, wrapped in felt cloth. Twenty-six ...
