Plans to sell-off 101 council-owned farms in Staffordshire are
set to be scrapped following protests.
Members of Staffordshire County Council's cabinet are expected to
approve the U-turn at a meeting on Wednesday.
Instead, council leaders plan to get rid of just 46 of the farms
and plough pounds1 million into the service over the next five
years.
The latest proposal follows four months of consultation into the
future of the council's pounds55.5 million 121-farm estate, which
covers 8,700 acres.
Farms have been rented out by the council for more than 100 years
to encourage young people into the profession.
