Amajor investigation is under way after two men were arrested
over an alleged pounds3 million potato bung scandal involving a firm
with West links and a supermarket giant.
Detectives have arrested a buyer at Sainsbury's and a senior
member of staff at the UK's biggest potato company, Greenvale, amid
claims of backhanders being paid.
Well known Sainsbury's buyer John Maylam and Greenvale's
operations director David Baxter have been released on bail while
City of London police probe allegation of corruption and money
laundering.
Greenvale has offices in Hereford and Taunton and many local
growers supply the Shropshire-based company, a major player in the
pounds1 billion potato industry.
