Article: Pirates strike deal with Snell

BRADENTON, Fla. - Ian Snell didn't get a long-term deal worked out with the Pirates before March 10, the day the organization handed out contracts to 28 players with less than three years of major-league experience.

He was all smiles Sunday after that one-year contract was torn up and replaced with a deal worth at least $8 million that could keep him with the Pirates through the 2012 season. The contract gives the 26-year-old right-hander three years guaranteed and includes club options for 2011 and 2012.
