When Shoe Carnival first sold its stock to the public 15 years
ago, the company had 39 stores.
On Friday, executives celebrated the 15th anniversary of its
initial public offering by ringing the opening bell at the Nasdaq
stock exchange. Meanwhile, Shoe Carnival opened its 293rd store, in
Collierville, Tenn., a suburb of Memphis.
It was on March 16, 1993, that the company first offered stocks
to the public, raising $28.5 million by selling 3.6 million shares.
"Obviously we've put that money to good use," said Chief
Financial Officer Kerry Jackson.
The Shoe Carnival chain was founded in 1978 by an Evansville
