Article: Cumberland manufacturer revs up for biodiesel foray

Ardisam Inc. is expanding its ice auger and gear-box manufacturing business into biodiesel because it costs less for materials and because the government is offering it an incentive.

The price of materials to build tools and gear boxes in China is seven times cheaper than in the U.S. There is no reason to buy materials in China but produce the tools in Cumberland, said Ronald Ruppel, chief financial officer for Ardisam and chief executive officer of Sunpower Biodiesel, its new branch that will begin manufacturing 3 million gallons of biodiesel annually in the coming years.
