Global Positioning Systems (GPS) have joined iPods and laptop
computers as preferred items of choice for car looters in Lancaster
County.
In recent days, thieves grabbed GPS units from several vehicles
in Lancaster and Manheim Township.
And recent local police reports show that GPS directional-guide
systems, which motorists attach to dashboards and windshields, are
disappearing from vehicles at an alarming rate.
"Every couple days there are several of them,'' said Manheim
Township police Sgt. Thomas E. Rudzinski.
Stealing GPS units is as easy as grabbing loose pocketbooks from
vehicles and probably more profitable, Rudzinski noted.
