Brookfield -- Aldermen voted unanimously Tuesday to seek
negotiations with Milwaukee to buy Lake Michigan water to serve a
southeastern corner of Brookfield, under a joint project with Elm
Grove.
Milwaukee sought the formal request, even though staff in the
municipalities have had conversations about the suburbs' request for
lake water.
If Brookfield does start buying lake water to serve part of its
city, Brookfield's water rates will increase, city Public Works
Director Tom Grisa said in an interview Tuesday.
While such decisions are months or years away, it's also likely
that rates would increase for all city residents, not just those who
would receive lake water, he said.
