DAYTON -- During times like these, there's an ongoing debate at
most ballet companies between the artistic director and the chief
administrative officer.
One has a vision for glorious new productions by exciting new
artists that will require new funding.
The other is looking at a balance sheet that indicates potential
ticket buyers are staying home as gasoline prices, medical bills and
college costs soar.
At the Dayton Ballet, that clash of priorities takes place
between Dermot Burke and himself. He has worn both hats since
becoming director of the 71-year-old company 16 years ago.
