HEALTH watchdogs are investigating the high death rates at a
Staffordshire NHS trust.
The Healthcare Commission is to look into Mid Staffordshire NHS
Foundation Trust's mortality rates at Staffordshire General and
Cannock Chase hospitals.
The move is in response to data suggesting that the trust's rates
of mortality may be high, particularly in the area of emergency
admissions.
Concerns have been raised about the effectiveness of the trust's
systems for monitoring mortality rates.
The commission carried out an initial analysis of data from the
trust and compared this with other trusts.
