The Irish owners of the Golden Wonder crisp factory in Scunthorpe
have taken a big bite into the UK's snack food market.
Ulster-based Tayto Golden Wonder has bought Britain's best-
selling pork scratchings brand Mr Porky for an undisclosed sum.
The deal with the Birmingham-based Red Mill Food company has
elevated the company into third place in the UK snack food league,
behind Walkers and United Biscuits.
It is also said to be good news for Scunthorpe where 300 workers
are employed, with 60 years of crisp-making expertise.
A Tayto spokeswoman said: "The takeover of Mr Porky will be very
positive news for Scunthorpe.
"It opens up new marketing and distribution opportunities."
