MATT BANAHAN'S transformation from lumbering lock to free-
scoring wing was completed yesterday with a superb try that took
Bath to the top of the Premiership and ended the title hopes of the
club who released him two years ago.
Banahan spent two years playing as a lock in the Exiles' academy
before they decided he would never make the grade as a second row.
But they could not have anticipated the impact that Banahan, a
former hockey player from Jersey, would make having reinvented
himself as a wing with Bath.
At 6ft 7in and 17 stone, Banahan certainly has the physical
attributes of a forward, but he also has plenty of pace, as the
Exiles discovered to their cost yesterday.
